John 8:12-20 Title: Jesus, the Light of Life, Drives Out Darkness
The best news for those in darkness is light
Because this world is dark,
many people are waiting for the light and want to see the light.
Light is truly needed now
The whole world is ruled by injustice
The whole world is filled with the sounds of sin, despair, and death
The whole world is thirsty for light, thirsty for truth,
and thirsty for a shepherd There is no hope to be found anywhere in the world.
However, 2000 years ago, in a world filled with the sounds of despair,
frustration, and death,
There is someone who came to this earth to give hope. It is Jesus Christ
Jesus is God who came to this earth in human form
This Jesus declares, “Behold, I am the light of the world.”
This is the word in verse 12
Jesus spoke again to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.
He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
This is the voice that all mankind has longed for and waited for
This word means that darkness, despair, and death are not limited to this age,
but were also present in the Israelites under Roman oppression at that time
The darkness of the world exists now as it was then, just in different times
All people living then and now are sinners
The given environment is different,
but the world where sinners live is not much different
The world where sinners live is full of darkness, death, and despair
Into this world, Jesus came as the light of the world and gives a message of hope
The words in verse 12,
“I am the light of the world,” contain the following meanings:
1) The world is truly dark
Since the creation of the world,
when Adam and Eve sinned Darkness came to the world.
As the darkness deepened,
God judged with the Tower of Babel incident and the flood.
And on the last day,
He will destroy the world with the judgment of fire as the end of mankind.
Matthew 24:37-39
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people
were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark. And they did not
know until the flood came and took them all away. So it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In the days of Noah, the people heard that there would be a judgment
of the flood,
But even after seeing Noah enter the ark, they did not believe it.
They said, “What kind of end is this?” and went on eating, drinking, marrying
and giving in marriage. Even now, people who live in sin live without
even thinking about what the end is.
However, there is judgment and the end in the world.
There is the end of the individual,
when people live and die, and the end of the universe.
However, people try hard to deny the end and turn away from heaven and hell.
However, the end of the world definitely exists.
Heaven and hell definitely exist.
Pride has another characteristic of not knowing that it is arrogant.
Similarly, sin has the characteristic of not knowing about sin.
Just as if you paint black on black, it does not show the mark.
Darkness does not know darkness, and sin does not know sin.
Sinners do not know how serious sin is. So Jesus,
who knows the seriousness of sin,
died on the cross for the sins of sinners who do not know the seriousness of sin.
Sinners take sinning for granted.
Because there is pleasure in sin.
(Hebrews 11:25 - I prefer to suffer with God's people than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a while.)
They find pleasure in sinning, peace, and comfort in the darkness.
The world is truly full of darkness, and there is no truth, justice, purity,
or righteousness.
2) In this world full of darkness, Jesus came as light.
Jesus is not the one who brings light, nor is he the one who explains light.
Jesus is the light itself.
There is a famous British painter named Hand.
Among the paintings drawn by this 'Hand',
there is a painting called 'The Light of the World.'
This painting is of Jesus standing with a lamp in his hand.
The light from the lamp illuminates the dark hallway,
and even illuminates the face of Jesus lamenting the darkness of this world.
At one time, this painting was popular and many people bought it.
However, the art critic ‘Green Hope’ harshly criticized the painting.
“How can light come from the lamp Jesus is holding?
Jesus himself is the light, so for light to come, it must come from Jesus himself.
Why is light coming from the lamp Jesus is holding?
That painting is not biblical.”
Hope saw it correctly.
Jesus is not someone who leads us with a lamp in his hand.
Jesus is light itself and life.
Jesus is the Savior who came to brighten the world,
and the Son of God who came to brighten the world.
Therefore, accepting Jesus means going into the light,
and accepting Jesus means obtaining life itself.
Belief in Jesus means coming out of darkness and going into the light.
It is coming out of death and going into life.
Jesus, He is the light of our life
John chapters 1, 2, and 3 talk about this light
The first half of John's gospel is mainly about this light
Chapter 1, verse 4
In Him was life, and that life was the light of all men
Chapter 1, verse 9
The true light, which gives light to every man, was coming into the world
Chapter 3, verse 19
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil
Jesus uses symbolic language when describing Himself
I am the bread of life, I am the true drink, I am the light of the world
I am the good shepherd. I am the gate of the sheep
I am the resurrection and the life
I am the way, the truth, the life
I am the vine--he says
When Jesus said that he was the light of life, many people were confused
But Jesus is God, so he is the light of life
Jesus has all the subjects that satisfy life within himself
“I am the bread of life. I am the light of the world.
I am the water of life to the thirsty. I am the truth, I am the good shepherd.”
No matter how great a human being is, he cannot say such things
To those who long for bread, Jesus is the bread of life
To those who long for light, Jesus is the light of life
To those who thirst for truth, Jesus is the truth
To those who long for a shepherd, Jesus is the good shepherd
All our needs are contained within Jesus himself.
Therefore, Jesus confidently shouts
Jesus is filled with the glory of God
3)Now that this Jesus is in the world, there is hope in a world without hope
Because Jesus is the light of the world, there is hope
When we look at this sinful world, there is no hope. However,
there is hope when we look to Jesus, the Word and the Light of Life.
No matter how we live,
those who believe in Jesus and are saved will go to heaven when they die.
Light has the characteristic of not being hidden or concealed.
So when light comes, darkness retreats. Even if you reject light,
you cannot stop the light from shining.
Similarly, no matter how much humans deny God,
God's existence does not disappear.
However, God is not in the hearts of those who reject and deny.
Even if humans reject God, God is God.
Whether they believe in God or not, Jesus is the light of life.
I am the self-existent one.
I am that I am.
God is the one who proves Himself.
Whether people believe or not, God created the universe, made humans,
and is omnipotent, alive, and eternal.
Therefore, as long as God lives and Jesus, the light, exists,
there is hope for the world.
John 1:20
Everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light,
lest his deeds be exposed.
Why do humans hate Jesus, the light? Because humans are false and dark
Sinful people hate righteous people
Evil people hate good people
Unrighteous people hate righteous people
Disobedient people criticize obedient people
However, this light has a stronger power the darker it gets
When the dawn is deep, it means that morning is approaching
Light penetrates even through a small gap
There is light even at night.
There is light even when I close my eyes.
Even when I close my eyes, when Jesus, who is light, enters me,
my inner world becomes brighter
The deep part of our inner self cannot be illuminated by anything
But only Jesus can illuminate it
When you go to Southeast Asia, the streets at night are really dark.
And you get the feeling that the air and the sky are heavy
And people and faces are dark.
The city lights are dark,
but because Jesus, the light of life, is not there,
the air and sky are also dark and heavy.
This is because the spirit of darkness covers the air and sky.
Without Jesus, the light of life, the space of life is dark,
and my heart is also dark.
But when the Lord comes, all our lives will shine brightly.
Verse 12.
Jesus spoke again to them, saying, "I am the light of the world.
He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
The Lord says,
I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will receive two blessings.
1) They will not walk in darkness,
2) They will have the light of life. That is, they will be free from sin.
Now is a cursed life, but if you believe in Jesus, the curse will go away.
Now is the pain of illness, but if you believe in Jesus, the illness will go away.
Now is a painful life, but if you believe in Jesus, the pain will go away.
Now is a life of tribulation, but if you believe in Jesus, the tribulation will go away.
Those who believe in me, who follow me, all the darkness of life Disappear-is
The world is, in a word, darkness
This world is chaotic, empty, and deep in darkness
So in this world, there are children of light and children of darkness.
The children of darkness have money and power everywhere in the world.
After the mafia, yakuza, and Kim Du-han, the ‘3 major gangster families’
are ‘Beomseobangpa’, ‘Yang Eun-ipa’, and ‘OB Dong-jaepa’
They are in collusion with power,
and they are all involved in places where there is money
The casino gambling halls in Las Vegas, USA are run by American gangsters

The gangsters maintain security.
That's why Las Vegas is free of accidents 24 hours a day

Jesus came to this world, but darkness does not disappear
Even though Jesus came to the world as light, darkness remains
It means that if you believe in Jesus, darkness disappears
It does not mean that all the darkness in the world disappears
Darkness rejects light
When Jesus came to the world, people did not welcome him
Rather, they crucified Jesus, the light of life. Darkness killed the light
Sinners killed the righteous
As long as the righteous are in the world, sinners are not welcomed
So the reason the righteous are not welcomed in the world is
Because sinners will not leave them alone
However, if anyone believes in Jesus, darkness disappears
And the light of Jesus' life dominates the inner world
A family that has Jesus as its head is filled with the light of life
A company and workplace that has Jesus as its CEO will be free from recession
Labor-management relations will also change
It will become a beautiful community
If you keep Jesus, the light, in your heart,
you will enjoy the blessing of eternal life
In Genesis, when Jesus created the heavens and the earth,
he created light first Light is the beginning of creation
He created light and created everything in six days
Why is light the beginning of creation? Because light is life
The word of God is called the word of life
The reason is because the life of God is contained in this word of God
Jesus' words, "Lazarus, come out"
are a command to the dead Lazarus because there is life in the word
That is why the dead Lazarus, who had lost life, came back to life
Because he commanded the disease to go away by relying on the word?
A person whose life is dying from disease is healed by the word of God,
which is life They could not catch fish
But because they relied on the word and cast their nets?
The net was torn to pieces
When I prophesied to the ash-bone in the valley of Eshcol,
The dead, dry bones were reborn as life
The word of God is life, power, healing, and recovery
Life is the opposite of death
Life is alive, growing, and resurrecting / May it be filled with this life of Jesus
This universe moves with the life of God
Humans do not have the eternal life of God, but only the finite life of animals
However, if we believe in Jesus, God's life works in us
And we become those who have eternal life
By believing in Jesus, we have the image of God and go to eternal heaven
There is the life of God in Jesus
And this life is the light of people
When this light enters us, darkness leaves
And the power of despair, curse, and death disappears
When the light of life shines on my life, sin, disease, wounds,
and death are completely healed
I hope that we will be free from sin with the light of Jesus' life today
I hope that we will be healed from disease with the light of Jesus' life
May we be healed from wounds with the light of life I hope
I hope you will rise from death with the light of life
I hope the curse and darkness will go away in the name of Jesus, the light of life
Just as a flame disappears,
there are those who have lost their will and have no strength.
And they come to church, but the sermon does not come in
I cannot immerse myself in the praise. I cannot pray at all
However, when the light of life comes in, the sermon is heard,
the praise becomes grace, and the door of prayer opens
Jesus is the light of life, I hope you will be filled.
May the light of life come to you at this time
Truly, when you experience the light of life, you will experience many blessings
All darkness on the outside and inside will disappear
Just as when you open a closed door wide and fresh air comes into the room
Our hearts will be filled with cool, clear air
When we welcome Jesus, the light, we will be filled with eternal life
When life comes, even the depressed and hopeless souls will be energized
and filled with joy and gratitude
Darkness will disappear and we will be filled with the life of God
Like David, if you serve Jesus Christ, you will not be in vain in the world
Psalm 18:28
For you light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
By you I will run against the enemy; by my God I will leap over a wall. Hallelujah! Those who follow the Lord, the light
of life, will jump over the wall that blocks
our path.
If we follow Jesus, the light of life, we will jump over the Red Sea,
the Jordan River, and Jericho.
We will live without fear.
How wonderful it would be if we could accept Jesus, the light of life, with Amen.
However, the Pharisees of Jesus' time did not accept the word of God.
They did not believe in Jesus, the light of life.
Verse 13
The Pharisees said to him, "You are testifying about yourself;
your testimony is not true."
The Pharisees used all their logic to refute Jesus' words and reject them.
Jesus answered the Pharisees' words in four ways.
1) Jesus himself has spiritual knowledge.
Verse 14
Jesus answered and said to them,
"Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true.
I know where I came from and where I am going,
but you do not know where I came from or where I am going.
You do not know where I came from or where I am going,
but because I know, my testimony is true.
This is what Jesus can say because he is God.
However, the Pharisees do not understand his words.
2) Because people judge with their fleshly thoughts,
they do not realize that Jesus' testimony is right.
Verses 15-16
You judge according to the flesh, I judge no one.
And even if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone,
but the One who sent me is with me.
Jesus' testimony says that he is righteous because God is with him.
3) Just as the law is true when there is the testimony of two or three,
the testimony of Jesus is true because both God and Jesus himself testify.
Verses 17-18
In your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.
I am one who testifies about myself,
and the Father who sent me testifies about me.
When he said this, the Pharisees said this.
Verse 19
Then they asked him, "Where is your father?"
They asked Jesus, "Where is your father?"
To put it simply, they said, "Who is your father?"
Furthermore, they asked, "Who are you?"
The Pharisees who said this are the words of John 1:5. It comes to mind
“The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness does not understand it.”
We preach
God is alive. God created the universe and everything
- When we say this, they say this
“Have you seen God?”
And when we pray, we also ask to see God
The hearts of the Pharisees and the hearts of humans are the same
Then Jesus says this
Verse 19
Jesus answered, “You neither know me nor my Father.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.
4)You neither know me nor my Father.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also- He says
God cannot be understood by human reason.
But those who met Jesus understand, believe
They say Amen without any doubt
I hope you have faith
The Bible is not a book for everyone
Those who do not believe in Jesus do not understand the words of the Bible
But those who believe in Jesus understand the words of the Bible and have life
Those who have faith do not think like the Pharisees.
They accept the words of Jesus like children
The world has no hope
But there is hope because of Jesus, the light of life.
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path - It says
Jesus came as the light of the world.
The words of Jesus are our light means that the words guide me
When an airplane lands,
the pilot follows the taxi lights on the airport runway to land
Light guides our path
America has a president, Abraham Lincoln
When Lincoln was 5 years old, his mother passed away
When his mother passed away, she gave Lincoln a Bible.
“Read this Bible whenever you think of me.
Think of this Bible as your mother’s voice and always obey
the words of this Bible.”
What kind of person will you become later?
Lincoln, who heard the words of the Bible as his mother’s voice,
became a historical protagonist who moved the times.
God was the guide.
I hope you believe in Jesus.
Jesus came as the light of our lives.
He is the guide of our lives.
If you believe in Jesus, you will receive two blessings.
1) The darkness in your life disappears (disease, wounds, hardship, tribulation, curses, problems).
2) And the history of life that overcomes sin occurs.
I hope that Jesus, the light of life, will rule your life.
